Kearsney 1st X1 lost to Michaelhouse 1st X1 1-2
Football season got underway this weekend, when Kearsney hosted Michaelhouse.
Connor McNeil put Kearsney ahead early on, with the hosts enjoying a lot of the ball. Just before the break, Michaelhouse was able to draw level in what was a fair reflection of the first half.
There was no shortage of physicality and complete commitment by both schools, with the result being an end-to-end encounter for the last 35 minutes. The visitors, however, were able to clinch a winner with a few minutes left on the clock.
The game bodes well for an entertaining football season on the hill.
CANOEING
Kearsney paddlers fared well in the Wembley College interschools canoeing race at the weekend. In the u18 event Raine Scoular placed fifth, with Jack Sternberg, Thomas Bishop and George Sykes placing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in the u16 race.
NATIONAL & PROVICIAL SELECTIONS
LIFESAVING
Kearsney grade 9 learner Keagan White has been selected for the KZN Lifesaving team, and was named captain of the provincial Nippers side. He had an impressive showing at the SA Champs, ending in tie-third place for overall competitor in the competition.
Meanwhile, following a gruelling three-week course, Tyla Bricknell (grade 10) passed his senior lifesaving award.
POWER LIFTING
Kearsney power lifter Sean Rowan has been selected to represent South Africa at the World Powerlifting competition during November. He was awarded gold in his division with all new person best lifts, which included 122.5kg squats, 65kg bench press, 140kg deadlift, for a total weight of 327.5kgs.
