Sport news from Cannons Creek Independent School played when they against Melkbosstrand High School on Saturday, 3 August. The school fielded three boys teams – U14, U16, and U19, and were victorious for two out of the three matches. The U14s lost 6-1, the U16s won 4-2, and the U19s won 3-0. U16 Player of the Match was awarded to Liam Ingram, and U19 Player of the Match was awarded to Shahaan Ho-Kim.
Hockey:
Congratulations to the following Cannons Creek Independent High School pupils for being selected to play in the annual Cape Town Premier League (CPL) in September – Scott Wilkins (Grade 11, U18 Cup – A section) Casey Laver (Grade 7, U14 Cup – A section), Stella Melunsky (Grade 8, U14 Plate – B section, Georgie Crede (Grade 8, U14 Plate – B section).
Netball:
Cannons Creek Independent Primary School fielded four Netball teams against local neighbouring school, Pinehurst Primary School on 31 July. Three of these teams were victorious – U9s won, U10s won 4-0, U11s lost 3-5, and U12s won 7-3. Player of the Match awards were given as follows: Khanyisile Ncwana (U9) for her commitment in defense, and for her ability to intercept passes, Kaboentle Mathe (U10) for fierce defence and solid play, Rae Dorasamy (U11) for her relentless attacking play and crucial contributions to the team’s success, and Mia-Rae Hopley (U12) for her improved shooting and overall gameplay.
