This Week’s School Cricket Rankings First XI.
The sixth edition of the Westvaal North and South T20 Tournament lived up to its billing, delivering an exhilarating spectacle of boundaries and big totals. The flat, hard tracks favored the batsmen, resulting in countless sixes soaring over the ropes.
In a thrilling final, Affies emerged victorious, defeating Grey College in a nail-biting finish. The T20 format, while offering plenty of excitement, remains a bit of a lottery, as evidenced by some unexpected results in the batsman-friendly conditions.
Elsewhere, KES dominated their encounter against Pretoria Boys High, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten century from Tiago Dias and a destructive bowling performance from Connor Kuijers who snatched 6/24. St Johns College’s Alec Loveland (112*) also starred with an unbeaten century in their victory over St Albans.
The St Davids Manack brothers, Armaan (167) and Morteza (226), showcased their batting prowess, scoring impressive centuries against Northcliff. Despite a fine century from Charles Swart (103), Hilton College fell to Kearsney College, who were powered by centuries from Cameron Veenstra (104*) and Ross Coetzee (111).
Bishops continue to hold onto the No.1 spot on the School Cricket Rankings but the lead they built up during the first team has all but eroded as the top end of the table has closed the gap.
