Report:
James Fleming, MIC of Rugby, described the historic win over Affies as one of the biggest moments in Michaelhouse rugby history.
What a great day for Michaelhouse rugby! We don’t often get the chance to play against schools like Affies – it’s only the third time in our history – so to face them in Pretoria was both an excitement and a real challenge against one of the country’s top-tier schools. Our boys showed unbelievable courage. At one stage we were down to 13 men, defending on our try line for what felt like ages, but the boys’ resilience before half-time gave us the boost eventually to go on and win. In the second half, Affies pressed hard, but we pounced on opportunities, scored crucial tries, and held them out at the end to secure a phenomenal 29–27 victory.
I’m incredibly proud of the boys, proud of the coaching team, and proud to be part of Michaelhouse rugby. This must be one of the biggest moments in our rugby history, seeing the boys empty the tank in hot, trying conditions was so inspiring.
Thanks to everyone for the support – it’s a joy to be part of the Michaelhouse community on a day like this. We remain humble as we prepare for the next game, but today was a huge moment for us and for Michaelhouse rugby.”
Congratulations to our boys on an historic win and a fantastic team performance giving their all!
