Martizburg College Sports Report

maritzburg College

Overview Sporting Achievements

Weather was the winner this weekend, which saw all the cricket matches cancelled and one basketball match abandoned. However, the College basketball teams did not disappoint and won all their matches against Clifton. Unfortunately, the College water polo players were outclassed by Clifton and lost their games.

Basketball

College won all their matches against Clifton with some impressive margins.  The 1st team secured a very convincing win 88-47.

1st team report (Mr Suwi Siwila- Director Basketball)

After the highs of last weekend College faced an unpredictable Clifton side that has this year claimed victories over some top ranked sides including Northwood. Mr Cele, Clifton’s coach, is much admired and known for his innovative and sharp thinking. Before the game he mentioned they knew this would be their toughest test yet coming off a narrow 6 point loss to MHS. College looking focused and poised, got off to a flyer boosted by the return of Point Guard A Ngcobo. It was business as usual for L Dlamini and R Hoskins who led the with distinction; the former trying to make a case for himself for not being selected for the SA U18 squad. College led the 1st quarter 20 – 13 and never looked back. The next three quarters saw College go into cruise control and dominate the game, even adding U14 W Mbanjwa into the mix – one to look out for the future. College dominated proceedings on the day running away worthy winners 88-47.

Water polo

College’s water polo teams struggled against stronger Clifton players losing all four of their matches.
