St Andrew’s Match Report:
The St Andrew’s College 1st XI played some excellent cricket against St David’s on Lower today, winning by 8 wickets. Myles Sansom (63*) and Oliver Johns put together a match winning partnership that saw their team home in the last half hour of the game. This game after a solid opening stand of 82 by William Beamish and Rhys Wiblin.
The game was turned on its head earlier in the day when Ababalwe Zingela took a hatrick in his first over the day to bring the College XI back into the game after it the St David’s XI was set to dominate. Zingela finished with 4/11 in 6 overs. Tom Bussiahn bowled a tidy, long spell which kept the pressure on the St David’s batters throughout.
In the 2-day fixture for the Colts XI against St David’s on Knowling, scoring was difficult throughout the day for both teams. St Andrew’s College batted first and were bowled out for 165. Useful contributions came from Connor Holder, Corne van der Merwe and Oliver Whitaker.
Two late wickets saw St David’s 72/4 at the close with the match evenly poised for a potentially exciting finish tomorrow.
Match report: St Andrew’s College Vs Peterhouse
The St Andrew’s College 1st XI of 2025 got off to a positive start against Peterhouse on Knowling. Having won the toss, College chose to bat, and whilst it was tricky up front, Oliver Johns and Rhys Wiblin consolidated after two early wickets and put together an important 3rd wicket partnership. After the loss of Rhys Wiblin, and Oliver Johns (54), Benji Coventry and Ben Scharges batted well to get College to a competitive 207/8 in their 50 overs.
James Badenhorst bowled well in tandem with Alastair de Kock. Between them they took three quick wickets which put Peterhouse under early pressure in their chase. This was followed up by 7 wickets shared between the spinners, Rhys Wiblin (3/34), Tom Bussiahn (2/29) and Benji Coventry (2/12). Peterhouse were eventually bowled out for 132, College winning by 75 runs.
