Kearsney won by 24 runs
On Saturday Glenwood hosted Kearsney College. In what was a close affair in the first term, this match was expected to be another similar encounter between two closely matched teams.
Kearsney won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a pitch where no batsman ever felt in, and the bowlers were on top. Cole Young was the only player to make it past 30 and after Kearsney were 90/4 at tea, Glenwood introduced Kreesan Pillai who bowled a magnificent spell of spin bowling, taking 4 wickets for just 7 runs to bowl Kearsney out for 128.
Glenwood then went in to bat and were immediately under pressure with Michael Groom striking on his second ball. Kearsney’s two main spinners were the chief destroyers, with Mathew Gorrie being the standout taking 4 for 16 in his 10 overs. Rivan Moodley took 2 for 27 in his 10. A late onslaught from Akhil Maharaj, scoring 20 off 25 balls, could not stop his team being bowled out for 104, to give Kearsney 1st XI a 24-run victory.
WATER POLO
Kearsney won the overall trophy at the weekend’s annual Top 10 Tournament for the second consecutive year, for their outstanding water polo performances across the age groups.
The tournament showcases the top 10 water polo playing schools in KwaZulu-Natal. Whilst each age group competes for its own trophy, Kearsney’s outstanding performances across the board led to them securing the overall trophy.
Through a cumulative points system, Kearsney’s teams amassed sufficient points to claim the championship, demonstrating remarkable depth and consistency across all age groups.

BASKETBALL
Kearsney travelled to Glenwood for the weekend’s fixture, which was played in sweltering conditions on Glenwood’s outdoor courts.
Kearsney got off to a quick start, managing to have an 8-point lead (10-2) by the end of the first quarter. They maintained their defensive pressure on the Glenwood team and managed to only allow the hosts to score three more points by half-time, while continuing to keep their own score ticking over. The half-time score was 31-5 in favour of Kearsney.
The heat played a big factor in the third and fourth quarters, with Kearsney wilting somewhat, and only managing to score a further 29 points in the second half, while allowing Glenwood to score 19. It was too late, however, for the home team to mount any significant comeback, and Kearsney ran out winners 59-26.

SURF SKIING
Kearsney grade 10 pupil Jack Sternberg and partner Sam Hoy from Michaelhouse performed exceptionally well in the recent World Surfski champs held in Durban, completing the gruelling 30km course south from Durban harbour.
Tough conditions on Day 1 saw more than 30 boats in the field withdraw; but Jack and Sam showed real grit in pushing through to complete the first leg.
The second day brought calmer conditions, allowing Jack to enjoy his singles leg of the event.
