Northwood 1st X1: 107 all out (Browning 4/24; Coetzee 3/18)

Kearsney 1st X1: 108/0 (Bishop 60*; Wiggett 32*)

Kearsney won by 10 wickets

Kearsney College lost the toss and surprisingly were asked to bowl on a track that was definitely going to give the bowlers some assistance if they hit the right areas.

Sandiswa Yeni and Ryan Browning accepted the gift gratefully and Northwood were soon in trouble. The two quicks bowled superbly with Browning eventually returning figures of 4/24. The Kearsney fielding also placed Northwood under intense pressure and they lost wickets regularly. Ross Coetzee’s guile and turn in the middle overs (3/18) added to the pressure and Kearsney were destined to chase a small total.  And so it proved – Northwood were bowled out for 107 just before lunch.

Despite the ministrations of a competent Northwood attack, they were never going to defend that small total and Hayden Bishop 60* and Dylan Wiggett 32* ensured Kearsney home comfortably by 10 wickets with overs to spare. It was a collective team effort and some excellent cricket was played.

BASKETBALL

Northwood 1st team beat Kearsney 1st team 48-29

Kearsney travelled to Northwood on Saturday for a long hot humid day of basketball. The home team started like a house on fire, making all their early shots. Kearsney, despite taking the shots that they wanted, did not manage to convert any into points, leaving themselves a mountain to climb.

Northwood went into half-time leading 29-9 and looking unbeatable.

Kearsney began to convert on some baskets. Despite winning the fourth quarter 13-6, it was not enough, and Northwood ended deserving winners 48-29.

Top performers:

Kearsney: Rea Sithole 11 points; Kemani Pinkston 6;

Sinqobile Buthelezi and Connor Grenfell 4

Kearsney regained control in the third quarter, leading 8-5 with four minutes remaining.
