Fixtures: SA Schools Annual Boat Race

St Andrew’s College is proud to host the 22nd annual South African Schools Boat Race, which takes place on 9 and 10 December 2022 in Port Alfred. This South African Schools Rowing Union event is sponsored by Standard Bank. It showcases the best of South African Schools rowing as the crews contend against each other as well as against the challenge of the Kowie river.

St Andrew’s College Rowing Club welcomes staff, parents and spectators to watch the racing from the dedicated spectator zone at Port Alfred Ski-Boat Club, right at the race finish line.

Programme at a Glance

Friday 9 December

11h00 – Spectator Zone at Port Alfred Ski-Boat Club opens

14h00 – Junior Women’s heats start

16h30 – Junior Men’s heats start

17h00 to 18h00 – join us for a Sundowner Drink on the deck at the Ski-Boat Club following the announcement of the heats results and the order of racing for Saturday.

Saturday 10 December

06h30 – Spectator Zone at Port Alfred Ski Boat Club opens

07h00 to 15h30 – Finals races

16h30 – Prize Giving at the Halyards Hotel.

Competition Details

The regatta will include two events, namely: a Junior Men’s Eights race over 5,4 km and a Junior Women’s Quads race over 4 km. The time trials will be held on the afternoon of Friday 9 December. The finals will be held on Saturday 10 December. These events are open to all schoolboys’ first eight and girls’ first quad crews (excludes current matrics).

Venue

There is a dedicated spectator zone at Port Alfred Ski-Boat Club, right at the race finish line. Spectators will be able to view racing down the length of the course on TV screens in the Upper Deck Restaurant and will have a great vantage point at the finish line to cheer their crews home.
