Fasken Time Cricket Festival, Final day match report

Fasken Time Cricket Festival
coach ED
The 2024 Fasken Time Cricket Festival at St David’s Marist Inanda ended on Sunday with the hosts, St David’s putting the cherry on the top of what was a great event by beating Bishops Diocesan College by nine wickets in the final game on the La Valla field.
Bishops set a target of 280 in three hours, and probably didn’t expect St David’s to chase it. But they did, and thanks to an opening partnership of 274 between Jason Rowles (154) and Morteza Manack (120 not out) they reached the target with 15 minutes to spare.
There were four wins and three draws in the seven matches played and one of the draws – St John’s vs Waterkloof – went down to the wire, which is a pretty good return in a time cricket competition. There were some astute declarations from the captains, which is exactly the point that this festival is trying to teach.
Two of the wins were by an innings and more – St Stithians College over Hoërskool Nelspruit and St Charles College vs Jeppe High School for Boys. The St Charles game was over in a day, so in the spirit of the festival, the sides played a 50-over game on Sunday, and Jeppe turned the tables – winning by 82 runs.
Saints’ victory meant that they won both their games, as did the hosts – the only two teams to do so.
Congratulations to the following gentleman on their incredible accomplishments over the past four days of the 2024 Fasken Time Cricket Festival:
Batsman of the Festival: Llewellyn Sutherland – Maritzburg College
Bowler of the Festival: Dakalo Leketa – Saint Andrew’s School, Bloemfontein
Player of the Festival: Jason Rowles – #StDavidsMaristInanda
