The first stage of 2018 Cricket season has come to a close and once again we have witnessed some impressive school cricket from around the country.
Hilton College have been the form team during the season and it comes as little surprise that they are found resting at the top of the Belgotex Sports First XI Rankings table at this stage of the year. How they would have loved to have placed the Coca-Cola T20 Challenge trophy in the cabinet but it wasn’t to be for the KZN powerhouse who got pipped at the post by St. Andrews School who squeaked into the finals after a couple of close wins to edge out Hilton.
However it didn’t start that well for St.Andrews School who got beaten by Hilton College by 47 runs on Day one of the tournament but sticking to the task at hand they fought for every run and wicket they got to get into the final. Narrow wins against Grey High School and Rondebosch seemed to infuse the Free State team with confidence as they took on the all conquering Hilton side. Thanks to an unbeaten 65 runs by Ruan Cronje and Garnett Tarr who struck 44 runs, St Andrews School steadied the ship and took the championship.
The success by St.Andrews School helps to move them into the top five zone with Grey High School shifting up to the second spot after a good season.
