In an exhilarating display of junior cricket talent, Michaelhouse U14 A and B team cricketers took on a touring side from Johannesburg, Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge, in two thrilling matches on the picturesque Hannah’s Field. The matches, held on Wednesday, August 9, and Friday, August 11, showcased the passion and skill of these young cricketers.
In the T20 encounter on August 9, Michaelhouse batted first and set a commendable total of 144 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs. Rex Wardlaw, leading from the front as captain, exhibited remarkable finesse with an unbeaten 47, while Ben Hughes opened the batting with an impressive 39 not out. The boys displayed great teamwork and determination.
Trinityhouse responded with a resounding 147 for no loss, with their captain, Sohail Seonath, stealing the show with an unbeaten 64. Trinityhouse secured victory with 10 wickets to spare, demonstrating their prowess in the format.
The 50-over clash on August 11 provided another riveting spectacle. Trinityhouse batted first and posted an impressive total of 251 all out, led once again by the dynamic Sohail Seonath, who reached a magnificent century. Chasing 252 for victory, Michaelhouse faced an uphill battle. Ben Hughes, however, rose to the occasion, delivering a brilliant knock of 147 not out, guiding his team to a remarkable victory by 4 wickets. The victory was a testament to the team’s unyielding determination and resilience.
Throughout both matches, the Michaelhouse U14’s showcased exceptional teamwork, grit, and skill.
