Last year, the Bishops U14 cricket team may have struggled to find their footing in the high-pressure environment of school cricket. But what a difference a year makes!
This year’s U15A squad has shown remarkable improvement at the start of the 2025 season, delivering a statement of intent with a dominant performance at the Peninsula Cricket Festival.
The young Bishops side remained undefeated throughout the tournament, securing impressive victories over formidable opponents like St Stithians and last year’s number one ranked U14 team, Affies.
Key results included a 26-run victory over Affies, a 4-wicket triumph against St. Stithians, a 7-wicket win over Pretoria Boys, and a resounding 101-run victory over Potch Gim.
Individual brilliance shone through the team’s success. Batting star Ibraheem Taliep consistently impressed, amassing 305 runs throughout the tournament, including a magnificent 86 against St. Charles College and a blistering 72 against Pretoria Boys. Adaam van Graan also contributed significantly with a crucial 75 against St. Stithians.
The Bishops bowling attack was equally impressive. Ethan Constable was a force to be reckoned with, claiming 12 wickets throughout the tournament, including a five-wicket haul against St. Charles College. Adaam van Graan also chipped in with four wickets against Pretoria Boys.
A special mention goes to the Bishops pace attack of Bulela Klaas, Xander McLachlan, Yusuf Patel, and Sean Norris, who consistently bowled tight lines and lengths, playing a crucial role in the team’s success.
The Bishops U15A team has undoubtedly sent a strong message with their dominant performance at the Peninsula Cricket Festival. This young side is brimming with talent and has the potential to achieve great things in the upcoming season.
