Hockey: The SA School's Rankings

The top five all recorded wins over the weekend which ensured that their positions didn’t change and it is a pity that the much anticipated Kearsney v Maritzburg College had to be cancelled due to a flu epidemic.

Please note that two outstanding results for Pretoria Boy’s High have been included which had a small bearing on this week’s rankings. This weekend there is the big “Battle of the Jukskei” when Pretoria Boy’s meet St. John’s College which will give both teams a chance to move up the table.

Rugby: Paarl Gimmies U16 Tournament

PAARL GIMNASIUM UNDER 16 TOURNAMENT – MARCH 30 TO APRIL 3, 2013

PG 16Paarl Gimnasium (Gim) will be hosting their 21st annual under 16 rugby tournament in March 2012. Twenty four of the country's top schools will play matches on March 30, April 1, & 3.

School tournaments traditionally focus on the under 18 level. The Gim tournament offers younger players a chance to compete against top schools outside their province on an almost provincial level.

The top six FNB Top 20 schools of 2012 participate in the Gim tournament.

The wealth of attractions offered by Paarl, the Cape Winelands and the fact that Boishaai’s under 15 rugby tournament takes place at the same time, contributes to the tournament’s growth in size to something similar to other famous School Rugby Festivals up-country.

 Visit http://u16rugbytournament.rgcms.co.za/ for further information.

Walking around Paarl Boys' High on a crisp Autumn morning is like heaven for a rugby lover. I still hold many a fond Copy_of_1110419_Maryke_mmemory of this grand old school from my playing days when we would trek out to Paarl to pit ourselves against some of the best of the Boland.

Booishai run out winners at Interschools

Paarl Gym were aiming for a record six wins in a row when they faced Booishai in the annual Interschools at Faure Stadium. Many would have tipped Gimmies to do just that as they have had a good season and appeared the stronger side going into the match.
However Paarl Boy's High had been quietly going about their preparation and were not prepared to roll over and play dead

They say that this sleepy town with a population of about 108 000 awakens with a tumultuous roar when these two giants of the schools game clash. Businesses are shut, butchers are sold out and the town is sent into complete rugby fever as the Saturday of the game approaches. We profile the two massive schools involved in this feast of rugby to see what all the fuss is about.
