Coinciding with the 150th anniversary celebrations, Paarl Boys’ High School in the Western Cape has installed an impressive Rhino-Turf hockey pitch by Turftech that will be used for both high-level hockey games as well as being used a playground surface for the younger boys.

Hockey: Paarl Boys' High Enter a New Era

The first mention of the sport “hockey” being played at Paarl Boys’ High School was in 1922 when it was stated, by the headmaster at the time Mr Du Préle Roux, that “… during the Winter Season some elected to forsake the manly game of Rugby and threw in their lot with the local flappers in a feeble imitation of the game of Hockey…”!

On Saturday 27th of May 2017, Premier Interschools once again brings a top-class derby to all lovers of schoolboy rugby. This time around the annual interschools between Paarl Boys’ High and Paul Roos Gimnasium is broadcast live at 12 noon from the Brug Street grounds of Boishaai.

Rugby: Boishaai vs Marlow Team Sheets

It is what the top High Schools dream about, playing in the finals of the last match of the season. This weekend Die Burger Rugby Finals take place and it promises to be a tough day in the park for all teams concerned.

Hockey: The SA School's Rankings

The top five all recorded wins over the weekend which ensured that their positions didn’t change and it is a pity that the much anticipated Kearsney v Maritzburg College had to be cancelled due to a flu epidemic.

Please note that two outstanding results for Pretoria Boy’s High have been included which had a small bearing on this week’s rankings. This weekend there is the big “Battle of the Jukskei” when Pretoria Boy’s meet St. John’s College which will give both teams a chance to move up the table.

Rugby: The SA Top 95 Rankings

A huge effort by Oakdale finally has brought the mighty Paarl Gim bulldozer to a temporary halt although they will no doubt feel the 17-17 draw was more of a speed hump than an arrestor bed.

Results of the A League Gala

It was another big effort by Rondebosch Boy’s High who pulled off their ninth win in ten attempts in the Newlands A league Gala on the 27 February, 2013.

Rondebosch who are now viewed as one of the top swimming teams in the country were dominant in most of the events which also saw Paul Roos Gym and Wynberg scrapping it out for the second place.

In the Girls division Rhenish, who went into the gala as the clear favourites, had matters their own way for the majority of the gala although Herschel girls put up a strong challenge and could be in a position to be serious contenders in 2014.

Boishaai T20 Champions!

 

After 600 teams had fallen by the wayside in the Cricket South Africa Schools T20 Challenge it was left to the country’s top six teams to battle it out to claim the title as T20 champs!

This is a must win match for Boishaai if they are going to entertain any hope of staying in touch with the top three and they must be the favourites to take the victory.

Gimmies have tried gamely in the past few seasons to get back to winning ways but have had to play second fiddle to Boishaai and that trend looked like continuing this year although Gimmies found themselves ranked three places higher than their rivals this time.

Walking around Paarl Boys' High on a crisp Autumn morning is like heaven for a rugby lover. I still hold many a fond Copy_of_1110419_Maryke_mmemory of this grand old school from my playing days when we would trek out to Paarl to pit ourselves against some of the best of the Boland.

Booishai run out winners at Interschools


Paarl Gym were aiming for a record six wins in a row when they faced Booishai in the annual Interschools at Faure Stadium. Many would have tipped Gimmies to do just that as they have had a good season and appeared the stronger side going into the match.
However Paarl Boy's High had been quietly going about their preparation and were not prepared to roll over and play dead

Businesses are shut, butchers are sold out and the town is sent into complete rugby fever as the Saturday of the game approaches.
