Crawford College La Lucia student, Ben de la Porte is now among the Top SA Junior Triathletes, a team who recently made their mar in World School Champs, France.
Grade 12 Crawford College La Lucia pupil, Travis Fisher, and past Crawfordian (2009), Jared Fisher, recently competed in the John Meyer Memorial Water Ski Championships held in Palm Bay, Florida and, later, they represented South Africa at the World U21 Water Ski Championships held in Winter Garden, FL.
At the John Meyer Memorial Water Ski competition, Travis finished second and scored a new personal best of 1 bouy at 11.25m at 58km/h. This feat has only ever been achieved by a hand full of South African Water Skiers. Travis has also achieved a high enough score to qualify for his Open National Water Skiing Colours. Jared finished first with a new personal best of 2 and half bouys at 11.25m @ 58km/h.
Unfortunately, Travis fell early on in his run and didn’t score well at The World Water Ski Championships. Jared, however, continued his excellent form and finished 20th.
Not since the days of Amanda Coetzer has South Africa been able to proudly proclaim that it has a female tennis player to write home about. The allure of the USA and the institutional indifference to developing young talent has meant that youngsters either fall through the proverbial cracks into obscurity or seek greener pastures.
Crawford College North Coast proved, without a doubt, that they are currently the best surfing school in KwaZulu-Natal.
Hot on the heels of Crawfordian Cameron van der Burgh's success at London 2012, MD of Crawford-Schools™, Jaco Lotz, announced that Crawford La Lucia will be the first campus to host a Swimming School of Excellence.
