Soccer: Edgemead's Winning Streak Continues

Edgemead High School’s 1st boys’ soccer team first appeared in our magazine as winners of the newly formed Cape Town Schools’ Soccer League. Three years later they remain unbeaten in this league.

 

Kimberley’s Rietvale High School beat Mohloli Secondary School from Sharpeville 10-9 on penalties to claim the inaugural SA Schools Shootout title at Sacred Heart College in Observatory, Johannesburg today (Saturday 31 March). The match, broadcast live on SuperSport 4, saw the teams finish the match with a goal apiece – meaning the match headed straight to the lottery of penalties.

School Soccer To Be Revolutionised?

 

THE South African Football Association (Safa) is to announce plans to "revolutionise" school-level soccer development before the end of the World Cup, Safa vice-president Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko said yesterday.
SA became the first host country in the 80-year history of the World Cup to be knocked out in the preliminary stage on Tuesday, when the national team won 2-1 against France, but failed to go through to the next rounds, prompting public debate about the level of development.
