Ryan Lok Fundraiser

In June 2009, while many were enjoying a fantastic Cape Schools Rugby Week, a freak accident changed the life of a young man forever. In a match between Wynberg Boys' High and Grey High School, Wynberg No. 8 and hard man Ryan Lok peeled away from a Grey scrum...

to attempt to charge down a kick being made by the Grey flyhalf. Unfortunately on his way down from jumping up to charge down the kick, his right leg was caught in a divot in the field and thus dislocated his knee. However in a freak and tragic coincidence his femoral artery was severed in the process, leaving him with no blood flow to his right leg.

With a 70% chance that the leg would be lost, doctors worked tirelessly through operation after operation and miraculously saved Ryan's right leg. Unfortunately even such miracles come at a cost and the reality of the situation has hit the Lok family hard. While the operations were undoubtedly successful, they have escalated the medical costs to a substantial figure and with physio work and rehabilitation, this figure is sure to escalate further.

We at SA Schools Sports have decided to hop on board and assist the Lok family in their time of need, and we implore you, our readers and generous public, to assist in any way possible. Your donations, however small, ALL contribute to helping this young man, who has had to pass up the opportunity of playing in the colours of Western Province in the Coca-Cola U18 Cricket Week, due to this terrible accident.
