Rugby Preview: Bishops v Wynberg

On paper it looks as if Wynberg Boys' are going to be in for a long afternoon when then take on Bishops in a match that promises to deliver plenty of tries.

Bishops havbishops_v_wynberge enjoyed a great season so far and now sit in a solid ninth position on the table having only been on the losing side on three occasions and have taken some big scalps along the way. Averaging 28 points per match they are used to playing an attacking style of play and as coach Dave Mallett says "Bishops is committed to a fast-paced, exciting brand of rugby."

Bishops have some impress firepower in the likes of 103 kg loose forward Tarquin Carlsson who will captain the side and look out for their explosive tight-head prop, Motali to be ready to take the game by the scruff come scrum time. Another playmaker in the Bishops side is Western Province Craven Week player, Swiel who is displaying some wonderful skills at flyhalf and has the ability to turn a match on its head.

However Wynberg pose a very real challenge to Bishops and an upset is very much on the cards if they can play to their fullest potential. The flanker, Sikhumbuzo Notshe is a powerhouse and can make life very difficult if he can get enough possession. He is also the captain of the Western Province Craven Week side which serves to highlight what a special talent he is. Another Wynberg player that is showing heaps of class is their speedster Sompontsha who if given space has the legs to beat anyone.

All in all it promises to be a great advertisement of Western Cape school rugby with the balance of power slightly tipping in the favour of Bishops who will be gutted if they are forced to bend the knee to their neighbours.
