It has been a long season for the leaders of this week’s Belgotex Top 80 Rankings, Oranje Meisies, a season which has seen them win virtually every tournament that was on offer and deservedly they will end up as the top team in 2017.

The penultimate Belgotex First XV Top 100 Rankings sees little change after this weekend’s matches which still sees Boishaai at the top followed by Grey College and KES.

The 2017 season comes to an end this weekend but there some big matches planned for this weekend.

It was at U/9 level playing soccer for Grey College Bloemfontein that we went on tour to a school in JHB. It was on this tour that I got my first experience of Alexandra township in JHB and more importantly staying with a black family.

It is the one school rugby match that is perhaps getting more air time than any other that has been played this season and it doesn’t even feature one of the top First XV’s in the country.

After several weeks off, the No.1 ranked team on this week’s Belgotex Sports Rankings, Rondebosch got the second half of their season underway with two victories which has helped to consolidate their position with fast chasing Maritzburg College team now within touching distance.

The long awaited FNB Financial Wellness Super 12 Tournament hosted by Oranje Meisies took place last week with the top teams from all around South Africa taking part in what proved to be a massively successful event.

Hockey 5’s is a new international hockey format that was introduced by the FIH (Federation of International Hockey) to grow the excitement and exposure of the sport by offering a fast-paced, high-intensity equivalent of the game.

Grey College set about trying one last effort to reclaim the number one position on the First XV Belgotex Top 100 Rankings for 2017 with a devastating display against one of the powerhouses of KZN rugby, Glenwood.

Some of the teams will be on display for the final time in 2017 and there is still plenty of big matches planned for this weekend.
