Gutsy DHS Beaten By Glenwood!

DHS played with great determination in the second half and actually managed to outscore their neighbours Glenwood but the damage was done in the first half and it was too great a mountain for the 'Horseflies' to climb.

A quick look at the teams that KZN will be sending to this year's Craven and academy weeks and you realise just who is the powerhouse of KZN rugby. Glenwood players dominate the two teams with 13 players from Glenwood selected for the Craven Week and Academy A sides.

Glenwood V DHS, 2010

It is the Glenwood Old Boys Day and they take on their Berea neighbours in what will be as usual a match filled with passion. DHS have not fired on all cylinders and it is a sad sight to see this proud school struggling to keep up with the leaders of schoolboy rugby. Yet they have a side filled with Grade 11’s and we can fully expect a strong side next season from the Horseflies.

Most of the top teams are in action once again this weekend although many of the players will be hoping they can come through the remaining skirmishes unscathed before Craven Week kicks off at the end of June. A rejuvenated Maritzburg College have the potential to leap into the top 10 should the account for Affies who have lost their last two matches. However the standout match must be the Eastern Cape derby where Grey PE will look to end the great season that St. Andrews are enjoying...

Glenwood v Campbell Match Report

This week Glenwoods' Rugby teams took on George Campbell, Empangeni and Richards Bay, with a range of staggered fixtures. This meant that the Glenwood Third XV played Richards Bay First XV, the Second XV played the Empangeni First XV, and the Glenwood First XV played George Campbell First XV.

WBHS v College Rugby Report

Last year Westville turned the tables on College by beating the home team 3-0 on their Founders Day, only the second time in College's proud rugby history that this had happened, and it was Westville's turn this weekend to host the Maritzburg team on their very own "Old Boys" day.

We are moving into the business end of the season and the majority of the top teams are enjoying good success as the team get fitter and the hours of training is finally paying off. There were all the usual suspects winning this weekend but a few matches stand out: Westville v Maritzburg College, Monument v Affies, Bishops v Wynberg, Gimmies v SACS and Boishaai v Landou.

National Rugby Preview: 22 May, 2010

For many years, an unfortunate subculture has emerged in schoolboy rugby with nobody able to gauge the source. A despicable brawl stemming from one of the country's most prestigious schools has made the answer abundantly clear. Many parents attempt to live their aspirations through their children, but the manner in which some lose all control is laughable when you put the level of competition in context. Yes, tradition dictates that schoolboy rugby is a source of much pride and passion, but that is what it is; a game of sport between kids. Hopefully this serves as a reminder to such parents that losing all control is a source of great embarrassment for the kids themselves. After all, they have to deal with the repercussions for the next five days in class. Here is a preview of some of the big matches this weekend.

Can there be anything more despicable at a school boy rugby match than seeing parents getting involved in a punch up with schoolboys and other parents. It is definately the type of behaviour you would expect at one of the elite schools in the country, but apparently this is what took place at Hilton College.

Rugby Results 8th May, 2010

There were some huge matches this past weekend which saw some the countries big teams facing each other in what was mostly a great display of rugby. Highlight of the week would see Grey College extend their unbeaten run when they turned over a tough Paarl Boys side 34-12. There was also a battle of the boot in Durban where Glenwood hung on to a 9-6 win against Westville in a nail biter.  Here are some of the results from around the country.
