For a parent and a young player it could be the most frustrating aspect of school sport when it appears that a coach has his “special” players which he tends to favour.

Last year there was no stopping St. Stithians who raced to the top of the Belgotex First XI Rankings early and stayed there throughout the year completing a record unbeaten season.

The Water Polo season is in full swing and it is always exciting to see how the various teams will fare after losing some of their stars of last year.

What Defines a Champion?

What defines a champion? Is it making the First Team? Provincial or National selection? Is a champion someone who wins, takes first place or gets the gold medal?

Three years ago an article on a little known 12 year old cricketer living in Zimbabwe read, “…Wesley Madhevere is a name that is likely to set the stage alight in international cricket if the right mentorship and resources are invested in this 12 year old from Chitungwiza.”

The season has hardly begun and already some teams have notched up a dozen matches thanks to the various Independent Schools, Cape Schools, Grey High School and other festivals.
