Powerade Grey Festival Launch

North West

The Eastern Cape's worst drought in 130 years has forced a venue change for this years Powerade Grey Festival kicking off on Saturday, 27 March in Nelson Mandela Bay.The Easter tournament has shifted from it's home since its start in1993, the Phillip Field, to a better irrigated front cricket field. A magnificent backdrop for rugby, nonetheless.

The annual St Andrew's Shield Water Polo Tournament took place at the St Andrew's College on Saturday and Sunday. 17 teams took part this year, including two highly rated teams from outside the Eastern Cape - Clifton School from Durban, and St Peter's College from Johannesburg.

Tyler "The Shark" Fisher

On a dreary winter's evening, unseasonal rains left The ABSA Stadium looking more Derbyshire than Durban. As torrential downpours pelted the faithful, the Natal Sharks faced the prospect of an impressive Western Province outfit; far more experienced in such conditions. Butch James was away on international duty and Coach Dick Muir did what he did best: Bucking the national trend of conservative coaching by showing faith in talented youth. He plucked a Bloemfontein youngster from the Sharks youth system and the faith was repaid. Francois Steyn was born.

One of the most humbling sites awaits any school cricketer who receives the privilege of playing on Lower field towards the end of an exhaustive day of cricket. With the sun setting amidst the famous clock-tower in the background dedicated to those lost in wars gone by you feel a sense of pride and duty to uphold the gentlemen's game.

Traditionally, the Friday night of the Midmar weekend is always an exciting swimming evening at Westville Boys' High School and this year was no exception.  This is the evening that KZN Schools get a chance to swim against schools from around the country who are in KZN to compete in the Midmar Mile.

On a driving range near you, a budding young golfer rushes home, eager to catch a glimpse of Tiger Woods; even if it's simply on T.V. In the blink of an eye, the selfsame rookie contests a playoff at St. Andrews. A promising tennis player punishes the wall of the town's tennis club, mimicking a Roger Federer cross-court backhand.

Meat, Rice And When To ICE

Sorry to disappoint those of you who thought that this was a dietary segment, it will however provide you with some food for thought. Many of my patients ask me when they should apply ice to an injury, and when they should use heat, and I thought now would be a good time to address this topic.
