Queen’s College Taunton (UK)- Head of Hockey (Full Time) – Approximately £25,000 p/a - To Start –Late August 2017

Following the promotion of our previous incumbent, a former South African Hockey Olympian, to a Director of Hockey role at an American University, Queen’s College seeks an outstanding, enthusiastic and committed Head of Hockey to lead the development of the sport from the end of August 2017.

MAIN PURPOSE:

To lead the development of Hockey at Queen’s College, continuing to work on our programme to inspire boys and girls of all ages and ability, identifying and acting upon opportunities to raise the profile of the game both within the College and beyond, and managing the associated administration so as to ensure the programme runs effectively.

Background

Queen’s College Taunton (www.queenscollege.org.uk) is a small independent school in the South West of England, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, a proud sporting ethos and strong academic standards.

Queen’s College was ranked the 16th best independent sports school in the country, and the 2nd best in the South West, by School Sports Magazine in 2015.

Our hockey teams have reached the national finals or the quarter finals, on nine occasions in the last five years, and we had four full England Hockey Internationals in 2016 alone. Our success is not just limited to hockey though, with international performers in swimming, cross country, polo, canoe polo, triathlon and bobsleigh last year. In addition, cricket, rugby, athletics, fencing, biathle, equestrian and tennis are all represented at regional or national academy levels by our existing students.

Overview

  • The successful candidate will be able to deliver cutting edge coaching within a supportive educational environment, and will be expected to drive the continued development of hockey at the college.
  • Total commitment, and a strong but engaging personality are essential attributes.
  • The Head of Hockey will be required to have a distinguished pedigree of playing and/or coaching at an elite level.
  • There is no requirement for the appointee to be a qualified teacher.
  • The school offers a competitive remuneration package of approximately £25,000, in a fantastic working environment.
  • Single accommodation may be available, in return for assistance with boarding house duties.
