Maritzburg College is hosting the 2014 National Boys Hockey U18 Inter-Provincial Tournament from June 30th to July 5th in Pietermaritzburg.

The season comes to an end for many of the teams although there are still some league matches remaining and the Oranje Meisies tournament still to come next term which will involve most of the top 10 teams.

It was the big showdown, Westville vs Maritzburg College in the giant top of the table clash and a chance for either team to claim the No.1 spot in the SA Schools Top 65 Ranking outright.

Hockey: Top 60 Girls Rankings

The highly successful St Andrews  Independant Hockey Festival held during the past week sees several of the leading teams consolidating their positions on the SA Schools Top 65 Rankings for girls.

Maritzburg College continue to creep closer towards the pinnacle of the SA Schools Top 65 Rankings after completing their 13th win of the season against the hapless DHS who are enduring one of their most wretched seasons to date.

Check out the Boy’s and Girl’s hockey results for this week.

A strong showing by Durban Girl’s College during the past week has pushed the KZN outfit into the top five where they join the leading teams in girl’s hockey.

Westville hang grimly to their top spot in the SA Schools Top 65 Rankings for Boy’s after notching up their 11th straight win as they sprint along this season with a only a solitary loss to their name.

The hockey season is busy producing some spectacular matches and this week we have no shortage of interesting match ups that will test the skills of some of the country’s elite teams.

Whilst the leading team in SA, Oranje Meisies, takes a well earned break before the next term’s matches begins there have been a couple of teams that have made a good move up the table.

A convincing performance by Westville against two Johannesburg rivals keeps them in poll position although the old KZN juggernaut, Maritzburg College are getting within a drag flick of them.

Check out the hockey fixtures and results for this week here:

Two back to back wins by Westville keeps them on top of the Boy’s SA Schools Top 60 Rankings for another week although there is little to choose between the Top 5 at the moment.

Oranje Meisies matches are finished for this term and what a first half to the season it has been for the number one team in South Africa!

Several hotly contested hockey matches are scheduled for this weekend as we move deeper into the 2014 season.

A consistent run of form from the old powerhouse of SA Schools hockey, Maritzburg College have seen the KZN team move into second place and they are within striking distance of going one step higher if their purple patch continues.

Hockey: Match Report Queen's vs Dale

Written by

Queen’s travelled down to King William’s Town on the 16th May, 2014 to participate in the Dale Reunion activities. The eagerly awaited clash was played under pleasant conditions on the Friday evening with good support for both sides from their supporters. The encounter at Dale is always a tough match which is keenly anticipated by both sides.

Plenty of top class hockey on the go this weekend with the many First Teams involved in the Aitken Cup whilst the U15’s battle it out for the Boden Trophy. There is also the Parktown U16 Top 8 tournament that bring together some of the top teams in Gauteng.

There seems to be no stopping the Oranje Meisies Machine as they recorded yet another victory when they thoroughly outplayed Affies during the past week.

The top 5 remain unchanged after they all managed to get through the past week with victories and there is still very little to choose between these leading teams.

Several cross provincial match up this weekend will help to test the strenght of the various team involved and we look with anticipation to the Maritzburg College v KES and PBHS v Westville clashes.

The sheer volume of matches that the two front runners have already played is phenomenal and both Oranje Meisies and Eunice are involved in a titanic struggle to see who can finish as the leading hockey team in the country.

A stellar performance from Westville at the Kingswood Festival has seen them close the gap on Wynberg who are yet to fully get into their fixture list for the season.
