A convincing performance by Westville against two Johannesburg rivals keeps them in poll position although the old KZN juggernaut, Maritzburg College are getting within a drag flick of them.

Check out the hockey fixtures and results for this week here:

Two back to back wins by Westville keeps them on top of the Boy’s SA Schools Top 60 Rankings for another week although there is little to choose between the Top 5 at the moment.

Oranje Meisies matches are finished for this term and what a first half to the season it has been for the number one team in South Africa!

Several hotly contested hockey matches are scheduled for this weekend as we move deeper into the 2014 season.

A consistent run of form from the old powerhouse of SA Schools hockey, Maritzburg College have seen the KZN team move into second place and they are within striking distance of going one step higher if their purple patch continues.

Hockey: Match Report Queen's vs Dale

Written by

Queen’s travelled down to King William’s Town on the 16th May, 2014 to participate in the Dale Reunion activities. The eagerly awaited clash was played under pleasant conditions on the Friday evening with good support for both sides from their supporters. The encounter at Dale is always a tough match which is keenly anticipated by both sides.

Plenty of top class hockey on the go this weekend with the many First Teams involved in the Aitken Cup whilst the U15’s battle it out for the Boden Trophy. There is also the Parktown U16 Top 8 tournament that bring together some of the top teams in Gauteng.

There seems to be no stopping the Oranje Meisies Machine as they recorded yet another victory when they thoroughly outplayed Affies during the past week.

The top 5 remain unchanged after they all managed to get through the past week with victories and there is still very little to choose between these leading teams.

Several cross provincial match up this weekend will help to test the strenght of the various team involved and we look with anticipation to the Maritzburg College v KES and PBHS v Westville clashes.

The sheer volume of matches that the two front runners have already played is phenomenal and both Oranje Meisies and Eunice are involved in a titanic struggle to see who can finish as the leading hockey team in the country.

A stellar performance from Westville at the Kingswood Festival has seen them close the gap on Wynberg who are yet to fully get into their fixture list for the season.

Girl's Hockey: The SA Top 40 Rankings

The St.Stithians Easter Festival was one of the main events that took place recently involving the girl hockey teams which allowed for some interesting cross provincial matches and a clearer picture of the current form of the various teams.

Queen’s College continue their advance up the rankings after completing a very successful KES Easter Festival where they won all five of their matches.

Right across the country there will be plenty of topflight hockey being played as the Easter Festivals host the cream of South Africa’s hockey playing schools.

Oranje Meisies cling on to the top position for another week after a successful outing against Sentraal and they extend their unbeaten run to 16 matches.

Boys Hockey: SA Schools Top 30 Rankings

Wynberg took care of business in their match against Rondebosch to stay at the No.1 spot for the second consecutive week although there is not much to choose between them and the chasing pack who also enjoyed good results.

Selborne College players’ fresh from a tough tour of Holland faced a motivated Queen’s College side that clung on well after taking the lead to hand Selborne an unexpected defeat.

A thunderous performance by last year’s top team, Oranje Meisies, at the St.Mary’s School Waverley Festival, sees them once again going to the top of the Girl’s Hockey Rankings in the early stages of the season.

Hockey: The SA Schools Top 35 Rankings

After the dust has settled following the Nomads, Founders and several other key tournaments that were played out in the past week, there are some familiar faces amongst the leading teams in South African School hockey rankings.

School hockey gets going in a big way during this extended week of activity with the Nomads U18 and U16 tournaments sharing the headlines.

A confidence boosting 4-1 victory by Maritzburg College over 2013’s most improved side Northwood, hints at a revival of form from the former South African hockey powerhouse.

Hockey season is finally here and we look forward to bringing you all the results and fixtures in the weeks and months to come.
