The dust has settled on yet another fantastic hockey season with many more teams joining the rankings and competing fiercely to finish as high up the table as possible.

There can be little debate as to which team should be crowned as the leading Boys Hockey team in South Africa for 2018.

Paarl Gimnasium High School proudly hosted the inaugural u/16 Top Schools’ Tournament from 8 to 11 August 2018.

Perhaps the highlight of the U16 season was the introduction of the Paarl Gym U16 Top Schools Tournament for the first time and the huge success the event achieved which further enhanced the profile of the sport.

Boy's U16 Hockey: The Final Rankings for 2018

The powerful hockey culture that emanates from Jeppe was well seen this year as their U16 team set the pace for the better part of the season to end deservedly as the leading team in the country.

As the hockey season draws to an end for 2018 we did have some noticeable movement on the table from the past couple of weeks matches.

Selborne College make up some good ground to finish their season strongly with a top 10 finish on this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings after recording a couple of valuable wins which included a 3-2 victory against Grey High School.

Affies also showed that on their day they can match many of the best teams in the country and their 5-1 thumping of Pretoria Boys High underlines this. However it could have been so much better for Affies and they could have finished even higher up the rankings if it wasn’t for some unexpected losses. However they are still a young team which will pose a threat next season.

With a few matches still to be played please send through your results to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It was a motivated Menlo Park who took on the best in South Africa at the FNB Top 12 Schools Tournament hosted by Oranje Meisies and ended up champions when the dust had settled.

Fourteen of the best U14 Girls Hockey teams in the country assembled in Grahamstown this past weekend (10-12 August) to compete in the DSG Invitational Tournament.

The Biggest U16 Hockey Tournament for Boys and Girls in South Africa  hosted by Paarl Gym has arrived. Watch all the live action between the top U16 teams in the country here:

There was some steady progress up the Girl’s Hockey Top 70 Rankings this week by St. Mary’s Waverley who recorded some valuable wins at this stage of the season.

There is a new leader on this week’s Boys U16 Hockey Rankings in what could well be a perfectly timed run by Jeppe who take the No.1 spot for the first time in 2018.

It was a tough day at the office for Collegiate who took on the leading team in the country, Oranje Meisies it what resulted in a strong win for the Bloemfontein team.

Jeppe did what they needed to do to ensure that they are at the top of this week’s Boy’s First Team Rankings and that was to win their matches against KES and Waterkloof.

Affies came unstuck against a reinvigorated Maritzburg College side who climb up a place following their 3-0 win over the Pretorians.

Only the one change amongst the leading teams on this week’s Girls U16 Hockey Rankings, with St Mary’s Waverley getting into the top 5 sector in an otherwise unchanged top of the table.

The big Super 12 tournament is on the horizon and for some of the leading teams in the country this will be the culmination of a season that has been packed with hard work and play.

A well deserved win by Maritzburg College over Affies last weekend has helped to nudge them a little closer to Jeppe who still lead the Boys Hockey Rankings for this year.

THE St Mary's first team leader Maxine (Max) Hannan thrives on the responsibility of her position, it's not a burden.

Hockey: This Week's Results: 16/06/2018

This Week’s School Hockey results from around South Africa:

For the second time this season Maritzburg College were forced to bend their knee and accept defeat and in so doing take a step back on this week’s Belgotex Sports Boys Hockey Rankings.

St Annes power their way up the rankings with a dominant display at the ISSF Festival and now find themselves knocking down the door to get in amongst the top 10 leading teams.

Collegiate put in a good performance in their match against DSG to boost them into the second position on this week’s Girl’s U16 Hockey Rankings.

Maritzburg College is the big casualty on this week’s U16 Boy’s Rankings following a couple of difficult matches in the past weeks.
