Hockey: Match Report- Glenwood Wilt Against Westville

An incredibly hot day was the scene for this match played over the past weekend. Due to this it was decided on having a water break after 15 minutes in each half.

Glenwood started the game the stronger of the two teams but struggled to really gain ascendancy. Despite having territorial and possession advantage they struggled to create scoring opportunities neither penalty corners. At every restart Glenwood seemed to have lost focus and against the run of play Westville had a shot at goal which went in off the keepers pads which was disappointing as both teams had not goal shots up to that point. The heat seemed to have an effect on Glenwood as they struggled to maintain and play their high tempo game.

The last five minutes of the first half Glenwood upped the tempo, which resulted in a turnover and a swift counter-attack. The passes wee crisp and the result was a tap in goal of a very high standard.

The second half was a very dour affair with both teams struggling to dominate.  There were just too many turnovers and the normally sound basic skills suffered which lead it to being a stop start game with no real momentum. Despite a few scoring chances for both teams the quality was sorely lacking and a one all draw seemed to be a fair result.

The result was very disappointing for Glenwood as their result over the last few weeks had seen them dominate and outscore the more fancied opponents due to the relative young nature of the team.
