Both sides had remained unbeaten up until their clash and although a draw would perhaps have been a fair result, it was Oranje Meisies who held their nerve to remain unbeaten in their 2-1 victory.
The match was played in soggy conditions with parts of the field virtually flooded and there was even the thought at half time that the match be abandoned and called a draw. Yet Somerset determined to get one last shot at getting the No.1 spot opted to play on and despite showing true guts and glory finished on the losing side for the first time this season.
It has been a wonderful season of hockey played by the girls and few will disagree that Oranje Meisies with a 20 out of 20 win ratio against some of the strongest teams in the country deserve the No.1 spot. Congratulations to them!
Well done to all the coaches and especially the players for producing a great season and although there are still a few matches to be played we look forward to next season with great anticipation.
