Hockey: The Boy's 2013 Top 50 Rankings

A powerful performance by Wynberg in their final match of the season against Rondebosch has just been enough to take them to the top of the rankings in 2013 but it was a very close thing.

Wynberg have clung onto the No.1 spot for the better part of the season but stumbled to their second defeat of the season in their penultimate match which saw them lose valuable ground at the top of the table. Needing to win and win well against Rondebosch to retake the top spot, Wynberg rallied and put on a strong performance to beat Rondebosch 4-0 and arguably lay claim to the finest hockey side of 2013.

The loss by Rondebosch nudges them into a credible fourth spot and the high flying KZN powerhouse, Northwood were good value all season and deserve their spot in the top three.

It has been a very tightly contested top 10 for most of the season with several teams in contention, but at the end few would argue that Wynberg consistently produced a very strong brand of hockey and over a long season still had enough left in the tank to comfortably beat one of the strongest teams in the country.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches for providing us the spectators and fans of school hockey a memorable season.
