For the third time in a row Oranje Meisies travelled to the St Mary’s Waverley Tournament and won, which helps to boost them to the top of the SA School Rankings for this week, a position that they have made their own for several seasons now.

Still the very early stages of the 2016 hockey season and we can expect many more teams joining the rankings as more matches are played. This is how the SA Schools Rankings look at this stage and they are bound to change following the St Mary’s Waverley Festival.

The hockey season is now in full swing and many of the leading teams have already notched up several victories to boost their confidence as we head into a season that will only end in mid-September. Here are the first SA School Sports Rankings for 2016.

Hockey: Courtney Halle Feature

Courtney Halle has enjoyed a stellar season by anyone’s measure. The Maritzburg College first team defender played a big part in the team’s ranking by as the number one schoolboy hockey side in the country.

Every coach will know that plenty of things can go wrong for your team in a hockey match. Myriad reasons why a match you should win isn’t won.

Oranje meisies played 46 games in 2015, won 44, drew 1 and lost 1. Scoring 235 goals and only conceding 17 goals and in so doing claimed the top spot for yet another year on the SA Schools Hockey Rankings.

Maritzburg College for another year finish the season as the leading hockey team in the country after enjoying a successful campaign in 2015.

With the season all but over we find Maritzburg College for another year claiming the number one spot on the SA Schools Boys Hockey Rankings in what has been a very successful season for the Red, Black and White.

The U16 Hockey Rankings makes another appearance after some weeks and we still have Maritzburg College enjoying the top position although there is little to choose between the top five teams.

Yet another highly successful Top 8 Tournament hosted by Oranje Meisies brought together some of the leading teams in the country and the high calibre of play resulted in some changes to the SA Schools Top 70 Rankings.

Maritzburg College did what they have done all season and recorded yet another victory to all but secure their spot at the top of the SA Schools Hockey Rankings for 2015.

St Mary’s Waverley, after a string of victories, climb into a well deserved third place on the SA Schools Top 70 rankings and continue to put pressure on the front runners.

Pretoria Boys High were looking forward to the return match against the top team on the SA School Rankings, Maritzburg College with a great deal of anticipation and a chance to add some lustre to their season.

Pearson edged closer to a top five finish on the SA Schools Top 70 Rankings after a highly successful campaign at the Cape Town International U18 Festival where they came close to walking away with the title.

Paul Roos Gym move into the top three this week on the SA Schools Top 75 Rankings after a wonderful display of form at the Cape Town International Tournament which they went on to win.

It is the 12th anniversary of the Cape Town International Hockey Festival and the 2015 edition is bigger and better than ever.

The South Africa Schools Girls U18 A and U18 B Teams have been selected:

It is a highlight of any school athlete to get selected to be in the national team and following a highly competitive U18 IPT the following hockey players have been selected for the SA Schools U18A and U18 B teams.

A rather strange deal was struck up over cappuccino at the College Shoppe recently when Maritzburg College’s ultra-positive first team hockey captain Tyson Dlungwana bet against himself.
