Cricket: Match Report- St Andrews College v Muir

The St.Andrew College 1st XI took the early advantage on Saturday, 18 January, 2014 when they lost the toss in their annual match against Muir College.

St.Andrews College CricketThe sweltering Uitenhage conditions were going to be a test for the SAC batters but on the day they proved well suited to the task.  The St Andrew’s openers Timothy Leppan (25) and Nicholas Embling (57) set the innings up with a useful 54 run partnership. The runs continued to flow as Nicholas Embling and Gordon Everard (67) took on the Muir seamers going over the inner-ring and accelerating the innings.

At the same time Muir would have rued their three drop catches. Andrew Mills played the slow conditions superbly and with minimal risk compiled a smart 61*off 59 balls. College declared on 252/6 after 51 overs leaving approximately 64 overs for the afternoon session.

Muir was off to a solid start vs. the SAC seamers and at 56/2 the afternoon session promised exciting cricket. However after the introduction of the 1st spinner in the match it was evident the pitch would turn and be tough for the batsman. SAC spinners Steve Green (left arm spin) and Simon Taylor (leg spin) bowled superbly in tandem. Steven Green picked up 4 for 16 in 15.2 overs and Simon Taylor 3 for 13 in 11 overs, dismissing Muir for 88 and College winning by 164 runs.
