Cricket: Match Report- Queen's vs SAC

The St Andrew’s College 1st XI lost the toss vs. Queen’s College on Saturday th 8th February,  and was put into bat on fresh Lower Field pitch at St Andrew’s College.

Zach MelvillSt Andrew’s  found themselves under pressure early on with both openers trapped LBW. Brendan Owen and Andrew Mills looked to restore the innings but St Andrew’s made the error of losing wickets either side of drinks giving Queen’s the momentum. EP U17 Cricketer Revaldo Redcliff moved the ball around for Queen’s holding their attack together, but it was Devenuto Jekels who had the best return for Queen’s with figures of 3/15 in 8 overs.

Zach Melvill struck the ball well for St Andrew’s College, but poor judgment and neat fielding from Queen’s left Melvill stranded, run out on 34. Queen’s kept their stronghold on St Andrew’s  as they limped to 154 all out.

St Andrew’s College hit good areas in the afternoon session. Zach Melvill attacked the off stump line and Grant Dixie bowled with good pace from the other end. Queen’s found themselves on the back foot at 40/5 and were in much need of a partnership chasing the gettable 154. Unfortunately for Queens’ batsman the partnerships never arrived and were dismissed for 90. It was a slow day of cricket that made fluent batting tough, but both teams were up for the challenge with the ball that produced a tense match. St Andrew’s College won by 64 runs
