Cricket: Rondebosch Raze SACS

Rondebosch have been threatening in the early parts of the 2018 season to stamp their authority on the game and prove they are the big contenders to finish the year as the leading team in the country.

However far too many drawn matches have hamstrung Bosch so far this year and they needed a dominant performance against a quality team to reinforce their claim as a top team.

Facing SACS, who have led the First XI Rankings from the start of the season, was the perfect setting for a Rondebosch razing that left SACS in tatters at the end of spinners master class by Guy Sheena and Jordan Collier.

However SACS would have fancied their chances going into this match, competed well in the early exchanges and their bowlers never allowed any of the Bosch batters to totally dominate them, with Quin van Oordt top scoring with 40 runs. There were some useful contributions by Lehan Botha (31) and Gabriel Gad (30) but a total of 222 runs was well within the grasp of the SACS batters who had yet to lose a game and they had the added advantage of the young opener Daniel Smith in their line-up who had been scoring heavily this season.

The SACS openers started confidently enough seeing off the Rondebosch pacemen with little difficulty but then seemed to get bogged down as they inched along towards the target. The growing pressure was ratcheted up by some very aggressive field placing with fielders dotted all around the the batters. Eventually the dam wall broke with the right arm off break of Guy Sheena who caught and bowled Daniel Smith and in so doing exposed a batting line up who had little answers for the questions the spinners were about to ask.

Joined by his spinning partner Jordan Collier, the two spinners continued to exploit the conditions as the SACS batters fell quickly with only Ethan Burger (45) able to negotiate the testing conditions.

At the end Guy Sheena spun his way to 5/39 off his 18 overs and Jordan Collier took 4/18 off 12 overs. Those 30 overs of spin was all it took to dismantle SACS for just 93 runs and hand Rondebosch a memorable win by 129 runs.
