Cricket: Weather Rains on Kirsten's Parade

KwaZulu-Natal has been drenched in the fourth term with few cricket teams playing more than a couple of matches in the season.

ck1Sadly the weather played havoc with the weekend’s sport – the final sporting weekend of the year - with cricket and tennis matches being washed out.

The rain was disappointingly significant for Kersney College's  1st X1 cricket captain Craig Kirsten who would have broken many of Kearsney’s cricket records had the game been played. It would have enabled him to receive 100 1st team caps.

1st X1 coach Andre van Zyl said Craig was “a phenomenal player. He’s played 1st team for four years, since he was in Grade 9, and has taken over 100 wickets. Sadly the rain deprived him of being able to obtain his 100th first team cap.”

Selected earlier this year as opening bowler for SA Schools, Craig was Kearsney’s joint Sportsman of the Year, having played 1st team cricket, hockey and soccer.
