Cricket: Match Report- Glenwood Destroy Westville

On Saturday the 18 January, 2013 eagerly awaited clash between Glenwood High School and Westville took place at Bowdens Field Westville.

Andile PhehlukwayoWestville had enjoyed a hugely successful 2013 and finished the year on the SA School Sports Rankings as one of the top three teams in South Africa and many where wondering if they had the depth to continue that good run of form.

What transpired would have inspired Glenwood to believe that they could be looking at one of their finest season and they immediately set about destroying Westvile after they won the toss and invited Westville to bat.

Glenwood captain, Andile Phehlukwayo, put on brilliant bowling display and helped to  reduced the Westville batting line up to tatters. Westville finishing on 74 all out in 30 overs with Bruce Kerr top scoring with 20. Andile Phehlukwayo was fantastic finishing with 5 for 20 off 9 overs. All the Glenwood bowlers were outstanding as well as their fielding.

Glenwood's batting reponse was tempered by some disciplined Westville bowling and a rain delay of about an hour. A solid partnership between young Jordan Grobbelaar and Mickey Hay enabled Glenwood to get home comfortably by 5 wickets. Mickey Hay finishing with 31 not out was the anchor of the innings.
