Kearsney College swept the board at the weekend’s annual KZN Cricket Union awards evening, winning player of the season honours in all four major categories.

Kearsney old boy Kyle Abbott was named the Dolphins Player of the 2012/2013 Season; old boy Craig Kirsten the u19 Player of the Season; whilst current scholars Tristan Tedder (u17) and his cousin James Tedder (u15) players of the season.

The Dolphins’ 26-year-old Abbott received his call up to the national team earlier this year, as a replacement for the injured Jacques Kallis in the 3rd test against Pakistan. The right-arm fast-medium bowler took seven wickets on debut – the ninth best figures of all time for a debutant in test cricket.

An all-rounder in the broadest sense, Kirsten captained Kearsney’s 1st cricket and hockey teams, played 1st team soccer, was deputy head prefect and received 8 As in his matric examination. He was SA schools’ opening bowler and was selected for the SA u19 Cricket World Cup squad last year.

Another all-rounder, Tristan Tedder plays 1st team cricket and rugby for Kearsney. In Grade 11, he was selected to represent KZN at the u18 Craven Week earlier this year.

Cousin James ensured the u15 award stayed in the family for another year, taking over from Tristan, who was the KZN Cricket Union’s u15 player of the season last year. James is in Grade 10 and is a talented sportsman.
