Basketball: Results from the weekending 23rd Feb, 2014

St John’s College hosted yet another high quality U18 Tournament which saw some breathtaking play by some of the elite teams in South Africa.

The St Johns College Basketball Tournament 2014After more than 130 matches it came down the pre-tournament favourites and SA’s No.1 ranked team Maritzburg College against St Alban’s College who although arriving with a young team had defensively outplayed most of the opposition they had faced.

However the slight advantage of experience counted in the KZN team’s favour as they opened up a gap in the fourth quarter that St Albans couldn’t close and the title went the way of Maritzburg College who are in the form of their lives.

The next rankings will soon be out and there will certainly be some interesting movement in both directions on the table.
